Membership

To be eligible for membership in The American Legion, a person must be a veteran of a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and have served during a period of war as defined by the Congress of the United States of America. Post annual dues are $31. Eligibility dates are:

April 6, 1917 – November 11, 1918
World War I

December 7, 1941 – December 31, 1946
World War II

December 7, 1941 – August 15, 1945
World War II (U.S. Merchant Marine only)

June 25, 1950 – January 31, 1955
Korean War

February 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975
Lebanon

July 31, 1984
Grenada

December 20, 1989 – January 31, 1990
Panama

August 2, 1990 – (No end date set)
Persian, Gulf War
